5 reasons to create Twitter Lists
Twitter, one of my favorite social media tools, introduced a new feature awhile back. Twitter now allows you to create lists from your followers. You can arrange your followers into separate lists that other Twitter members can follow. What is the point of doing that? Is there any advantage to creating such lists? You bet there are!! Here are 5 reasons to create and maintain Twitter Lists.
Organize your tweets
Twitter Lists let you sort your followers. You can put all of your marketing tweeps on one list and your high school classmates on another. You can put all of your family members on their own list. Now here is the cool part – you can view each list separate from all of your other followers. You can click a link and see only the tweets of your family members. Never miss Uncle Irving’s tweets again!
Get MORE Followers!
You get noticed when you list people. There is even a site devoted to Twitter Lists called Listorious. People notice when you list them. When Twitter members learn that you have created lists that they think they should be on, they will follow you to get on your radar so that you can list them.
Create a new badge of honor
You know how people brag about how many followers they have on Twitter? Well, on your profile, there is place that tells people how many lists you are on. Now you can boast about how many Twitter Lists you are on! And the number is sitting right below your bio on your Twitter profile, right next to your number of followers.
Establish your expertise
Your lists are your recommendations to the Twitterverse. Make lists of experts in your niche. It will raise your credibility as an expert in your field.
Solidify your Brand
Your lists, like your tweets, show Twitterdom who you are. Make sure you name your lists such that people can recognize your niche. For example, a blogger may want to make lists of (other) bloggers, blog tools, and blogging platforms. You can gauge how well you brand yourself by monitoring what lists you are put on. If you are not being put on lists related to your niche, you may need to tweak your tweets, or at least tweet less often about what you ate for lunch.
