Wing Tips for the week I'd like to share with you some tips I've learned over the last three years of surfing traffic exchanges. These tips are from my own experiences plus learned techniques from many that have been online much longer.

Sites, Banners, Text Links as we are all aware is how we advertise our business using traffic exchanges. Sometimes we tend to forget that we need to assign credits, take our sites off hold, apply banner and text impressions. Make this a daily habit as you login to surf, applies to all your traffic exchanges, not just S4T.

Check your sites, make sure they are rotating, have the desired credits applied and test to confirm that you have entered the correct url. Just on S4T this past week, have seen many sites not being seen, either no credits applied or site on hold. You have to be seen to be effective. If your site happens to be an affiliate site, check that your affiliate ID is correct.

Sites to advertise is a key factor in your effectiveness. First would just like to say that your sites must be quick to load, you only have a few seconds to impress. There has always been and continues to be much discussion on the most effective type pages to advertise. The experts have always insisted that we use "Splash Pages" for best results. While agreeing with this philosphy I can only relate my experiences thus far.

My own experiences through testing have shown that splash pages do work well, if they attract attention, have a lead capture form to build subscribers. If possible any site you advertise should have your name and photo image. Building your reputation, becoming known on the Internet, "branding yourself" (per Jon Olsen) is key to your overall success.

Speaking of Jon Olsen, he and Dan Moses do a weekly podcast and this last week had a special guest, Mike Paetzold who offers his advice for success in building your subscribers using traffic exchanges. Jon and Dan, set this up on a Wordpress blog format, so when you have a chance, be sure to listen to what these guys have to say. Now back to the sites we advertise. Why not use the "golden rule" when choosing your site. Would you be annoyed with either a pop-up or audio that could not be turned off? Do you get turned off when you see sites loaded with banners and other advertisements, or when a site takes the entire surf cycle to load? Many of these type sites do not break our Terms of service, yet to some can be annoying.

We do allow one pop-up but only if easily closed and does not obstruct the surf bar. Audio is allowed, however we do ask that you offer a mute button. Sometimes when using an affiliate page, we are not aware that these things are included. Test your page by turning off your Pop-Up blocker and turning up your sound volume. Secondly, if members are annoyed with these type pages, their volume will be muted and Pop-Up blockers turned on, therefore their effectiveness is lost. Remember, if your page annoys, they won't buy!

Sites that break our terms of service will be suspended. I really don't like to suspend any sites, however to maintain smooth, clean surfing for all members it must be done. If unsure about what sites can be advertised, review our Terms of Service Please keep up the good work with reporting any sites you find that do break our terms. Appreciate all the help I can get in keeping the Eagles Soaring smoothly. Please use the "Report Site" link on your surf bar to report abuses and leave a short explanation of why you feel it breaks our terms.

Are you using the "Surf Center Console?" This tool was created just for you the members of S4T to better manage, control your surfing for all traffic exchanges. Unique only to S4T members and very effective to distribute your surfing for more credits in many different exchanges. Prioritize your favorites, add others that are not listed currently. Did you know that you can go straight to your surf console, without logging into S4T? Your personal link to do this is on your Surf Center page. Always check that your personal ID or Username is entered correctly on the traffic exchange downline builder as this creates your surf center. Make any changes, be sure to hit the "Update" button at the bottom of the page.
